International Icecarving Competition Korkeasaari Zoo, Helsinki (Finland), 4th Prize!
With Marlies Bielderman I joined the Art Meets Ice International Icesculpting Competitions in the Helsinki Zoo, 2009.
The theme being “Saved by the zoos”, inspired us to come up with the Black-footed Ferret, an animal with a dazzling comeback-story due to the utmost exertion of zoos:
The zoos set up an intensive breeding programme with the world population of 50 individuals remaining in 1986. Most of the animals, born in captivity, were again released into the wild. Biologists hope to have 1500 Black-footed Ferrets established in the wild by 2010.
Our sculpture represents this story by showing a zooworker, setting out Black-footed Ferrets back into the wild. A 4th prize winning piece!
